India: The Coming Dawn

 

 IIT London Chapter invites you for a talk by Shantanu Bhagwat on Wednesday 3rd June   titled, “India: The Coming Dawn”, Shantanu will speak of the challenges that India faces today and how we ended up in our present situation. He will discuss why he remains  hopeful…and how each of us can contribute to a brighter future for our country and fellow citizens.

            

An engineer by training, Shantanu Bhagwat is a one-time diplomat turned venture  investor and now advisor to start-ups.

           

These days he divides his time between UK and India, working with early stage  companies and on ideas to improve political systems and governance in India.

Shantanu Bhagwat

               

In a career spanning two decades, Mr. Bhagwat has worked across Geographies and

Industries including several years in Japan and in the UK. Presently a Partner at a venture capital firm, Mr. Bhagwat has also worked at Monitor Co. in London. Prior to that, he spent several years as a fast-track career diplomat with the Indian Foreign Service, working in New Delhi and Tokyo.

 

At Amadeus, his investments include PowerPaper which produces thin and flexible batteries; Solexa which developed ultra-high throughput DNA sequencing technology (acquired by Illumina in 2007) and Plastic Logic which has developed a process for producing flexible plastic transistors for use in displays.

 

Over the last few years, he has spent a lot of time thinking about and commenting on globalization, innovation and entrepreneurship across geographies and sectors with a particular emphasis on India.

 

He is a personal investor in several start-ups in India, including Myntra – a personalised gift company, Innoviti a cutting-edge start-up in transaction processing and Elements Akademia an innovative national chain of vocational schools.

 

A graduate in Computer Engineering, Shantanu holds an MBA from London Business School where he was a Chevening Scholar.

 

He is a Charter Member of TiE - a global non-profit network of entrepreneurs and professionals and a past member of Mensa International. He also sits on the Advisory Board of Asia-Silicon Valley Connection and the UK India Business Angel Network and is a frequent speaker and panellist at conferences on Venture Capital, Innovation, Asia and India.

 

We have limited capacity at the event and seats are available on a first come first serve basis.

 

There is no charge for the talk but registration is required and preference will be given to paid members of IITLC.  Attendees are requested to make a voluntary donation of £5 towards our charity fund.
