Arun Sarin Arun Sarin

Arun Sarin, a 1975-batch IIT-Kharagpur alumnus former CEO of Vodafone Group Plc, has been awarded an honorary knighthood by the Queen of England for his services to the communications industry.

Arun Sarin has spent almost his entire working life in the telecommunications industry. He has built an enviable professional record by combining various talents and skills: his technical knowledge, his business strategy, and his financial acumen are all legendary. He has held several senior-executive-level positions in major U.S. companies in the telecommunications industry. At times, his ascension into top-management positions appeared almost meteoric. Described by superiors and industry analysts as possessing determination and drive, he received high marks for his work in the preparation and financial analyses for business mergers and acquisitions in the growing telecommunications industry. His appointment as chief executive officer (CEO) of Vodafone, a multibillion-dollar British international wireless-communications company, is a tribute to his life's work and testimony to his broad appeal and respect among various constituents.

Arun Sarin is currently Senior Advisor at Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co and is also on the board of many major companies.
   
Dr. Raj Rajgopal Dr. Raj Rajgopal

Dr. Raj Rajagopal who is a 1974 batch alumnus from IIT Madras has been reappointed on the Prime Minister’s Council for Science and Technology which is the Government’s top-level advisory body on science, engineering and technology policy.

Dr Krishnamurthy “Raj” Rajagopal was Chief Executive of BOC Edwards and an Executive Director of the BOC Group plc until November 2006. He has worked for many years in international business especially in high technology industries as well as manufacturing technology and product development and held several positions in BOC Edwards before being appointed Chief Executive. He was appointed non-executive Director of FSI International Inc in Minneapolis (a NASDAQ company) in January 2001 and Foseco plc in May 2005.

Dr Rajagopal is a Chairman at UMIP ( The University of Manchester’s award-winning Intellectual Property commercialisation company ) and non executive director of WS Atkins plc, Bodycote plc and Spirax Sarco plc. He is also an Audit Commissioner and has other business advisory and executive interests.

Dr Rajagopal is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and a member of the Advisory Board of the Centre for Business research, Cambridge University. He is also a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), which awarded him the IEE Eric Mensforth International Gold Medal for outstanding contribution to manufacturing technology and management. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management and the Institute of Directors. He was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science degree by Cranfield University in 2004.
